Russian-born artist, Natalia Tsarkova as the Pope’s official painter couldn’t ignore the news of his resignation on February 11. Catholicism was never a barrier for her, Orthodox Christian. Moreover, Natalia had managed to build a strong relationship with Pope Benedict XVI. When she wrote and illustrated a book for children, the Pope himself came for the launch and had his personal secretary write the preface. Nevertheless, the Pope’s official painter respects his choice to resign and explains it as of his noble feeling of responsibility.
